Can you send medicine to Cuba?
Yes. Over-the-counter medicines, the ones you buy at the pharmacy without a prescription, can be sent in reasonable amounts for family use.
If your medicine needs a prescription, ask us before putting it in your package. Controlled substances can never be sent.
What families ask for most
These are over-the-counter products families often ask for. What to send, and for whom, is for your family and their doctor to decide: we just help you get it there.
- Pain and fever relievers: ibuprofen, acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin.
- Vitamins and supplements: multivitamins, vitamin C, calcium, children’s vitamins.
- Oral rehydration solution.
- Antacids and digestive aids.
- Over-the-counter creams and ointments.
- First-aid kit: bandages, gauze, medical tape, wraps, a thermometer.
Buying medicine to send to Cuba
In the Paketico store you can buy medicine with door-to-door delivery included. You can also send your own package with whatever you buy at any pharmacy or supermarket in the United States. A few tips so your purchase is truly useful:
- Ask your family for the exact name of the medicine and, if you can, send them a photo of the box to confirm.
- Buy with a far-off expiration date: the package takes 7 to 14 business days from the day we pick it up.
- Avoid anything that must be refrigerated: the package travels without cooling.
- Choose tablets and capsules over syrups: they weigh less and do not spill.
Medicine travels in its own package
Food, toiletries and medicines (medical supplies too) always travel in their own package: they can share that box, but are never mixed with the rest of your things.
Each package weighs 10 to 100 pounds and can be worth up to $800. Medicine weighs little: it can share a box with food and toiletries, in the “Food, hygiene and medicine” package, to reach the minimum. If you are still not sure how to fill out your package, call us and we will help you put it together.
How to pack medicine
Making sure it arrives intact, and that your family knows what each item is, matters as much as sending it.
- Keep each medicine in its original box or bottle, with the label, the leaflet and the expiration date visible.
- Do not take tablets out of their packaging or mix them in unlabeled baggies.
- Put bottles and syrups in zip-top plastic bags, with tape over the cap.
- Protect glass bottles with paper or old bedding and fill the gaps in the box.
- Declare on the form what is inside, exactly as it appears on each box.
How much it costs and how long it takes
The price is $5.00 per package plus $2.00 per pound: a 10-pound package costs $25.00 and a 15-pound one, $35.00. Pickup at your home, up to 100 miles from Miami, is charged separately based on distance. See more examples in how much it costs to ship to Cuba.
We deliver to all 15 provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud in an estimated 7 to 14 business days, and you can track the package every step of the way. If you also want to send toiletries or food, see those guides too.
